Admissions: Griffin Bell III has been a member of the State Bar of Georgia since 2002 and is authorized to practice before all state trial and appellate courts, including Superior, State, Probate, Magistrate (small claims), and city courts as well as the Georgia Court of Appeals and Georgia Supreme Court. He is also authorized to practice in the Northern and Middle districts of the United States District Courts in Georgia and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Education: Mr. Bell is a 2002 graduate of the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University, Macon, Georgia and during law school clerked for the law firm of O’Neal, Brown, & Clark, PC. Prior to law school, after obtaining his undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont, he lived in California for four years and toured the United States and Canada as a musician. He then returned to Georgia and spent three years in the credit data industry working in systems training and documentation for TSYS, Inc. Holding private, commercial, multi-engine, and instrument ratings and certificates for fixed wing aircraft, he practiced aviation law for several years.
Legal Community: Mr. Bell is a member of the Lawyers Club of Atlanta, the DeKalb Volunteer Lawyers Foundation, and is a trustee of the Georgia Legal History Foundation. He is also a trustee of the DeKalb County Law Library and serves on the Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law Alumni Board. The Georgia Supreme Court has appointed him a special master for Bar disciplinary matters. Mr. Bell published numerous of his pilot-oriented aviation law articles in Autopilot magazine at the beginning of his legal career and has written and presented continuing education materials entitled Courtesy and Civility in pre-trial litigation (January, 2010, March, 2009) and Common Carrier Liability and Duty of Care to Passengers (September, 2008 and December, 2008).
Mr. Bell is an adjunct professor at the Mercer University School of Law where he began teaching State Remedies in Debtor Creditor law in 2014. In the past, he has been a guest lecturer for that school's Law Office Practice Management Class. Mr. Bell has judged numerous law school moot court competitions and high school mock trial competitions at the state and national level. He has twice been recognized for his pro bono service by the DeKalb Volunteer Lawyers Foundation and in 2014 was recognized by the State Bar for outstanding public service in providing legal representation to the low income citizens of Georgia. In 2012, he and fellow Bar member Chris Armor founded the DeKalb Clinic, a bi-monthly outreach project to counsel and represent indigent citizens with consumer debt issues. He was also named in 2012 as Georgia Rising Star in Super Lawyers and Atlanta magazines.
